gamelan in the worlds
Play The HMS Gamelan!
HMS has two Javanese and one Balinese Gamelan available to schools.
Gamelan is the tuned percussion orchestra of Indonesia, comprising gongs, metallophones and drums played by up to 30 pupils at a time.
The music is built up from melodic patterns and rhythms from simple to complex and is challenging, fun and musically satisfying for all ages and abilities, allowing pupils to participate in ensemble playing right from the start, every pattern becoming part of a complex musical whole.

HMS Gamelan Hosting Scheme
To give all schools in Hampshire the opportunity to play, our Javanese Gamelan tour the county, staying in host schools for a term at a time. The host school receives 8 free ½ day workshops with our specialist tutor, and the Gamelan is visited by local schools. We handle the arrangements for visiting schools and provide the host school with a programme of bookings. Delivery and removal of the Gamelan are handled by our removals experts at a time convenient to the school.
The Gamelan requires a secure classroom or hall of min 40m² where it can be set up and left for the duration of the hosting.
