Reviews
A review of available CDs of central Javanese gamelan was published in Seleh Notes, Vol. 13, no. 3, July 2006. An extended version of that review (PDF file, 162 kB), which can be downloaded by clicking here, includes the three-CD set from Arion and the King Records (Japan) series as listed below. The Arion set, although theoretically available at the time of writing (June 2006), is not listed by major retailers. The King Records series has not been obtainable in Europe or the USA for several years, although some CDs in the series appear to be available in Japan: more details below.

Listings
Indonesian companies
CDs are now being issued by Indonesian recording companies, e.g. Dasa and Keraton Music. Not all are new digital recordings. These are not normally obtainable outside Indonesia.
The Lokananta company has started reissuing some of its classic cassette recordings in CD form: see dedicated pages at www.lokanantasolo.com/pages/cdseries.html, where detailed notes in English can also be found. These CDs are being sold via the American Gamelan Institute.
Companies outside Indonesia
The list below, consisting only of CDs released by Western labels, was prepared for use with the Seleh Notes review mentioned above. Titles of pieces are given in standardised modern spelling, and corrected as far as possible. Titles of the CDs themselves are left unchanged. On the ‘details’ pages, the dates are those of the recordings. Some of the pieces heard on these recordings, e.g. parts of the dance suites, are not identified in the track listings. If you can fill in the gaps, please contact the webmaster.
