	Alex Dea’s Workshop: Gamelan and Motorcycles GAMELAN KNALPOT This workshop by Alex Dea will be held within 2 days in July 9 until July 10 2007. Then, in 11 July 2007 the result of the workshop will be performed in 12th Yogyakarta Gamelan Festival. The concept of this workshop is actually combining the traditional instrument Gamelan with the sound of motorcycles. Thus, this workshop is divided into two sessions. In the first day of the workshop, the workshop’s participants will be taught how to play gamelan instrument. According to Alex Dea, the participants will be taught playing Gending Bendrong. The goal of the first workshop is to give the participants the basic concept of Gamelan’s sound. In the second day of the workshop, the participants will come into the session of combining the Gamelan instrument and motorcycles’ sound. They will learn to make harmony in playing Gending Bendrong using the combination of two different sounds: Gamelan and the sound of motorcycles. In this session only some of Gamelan instruments will be played, they are demung, kendang, kempul, gong, kenong,and bonang. There will be also a traditional dancer who will perform the Klono Topeng dance. The rundown of the workshop is presented below: 1.
